NEWS
Humans have a phrase, “Knowledge is power.” As usual they miss the mark. Knowledge alone is not sufficient. You need training in the rigors of magical thought. In particular, you must know how to use threads. Threads connect what you know to the magic contained in what you know. Threads are what turn your knowledge into power.

ED3 Previews: Talents, Skills, and Knacks

To sweeten the wait for the release of the first two Earthdawn Third Edition core rulebooks, the Player’s Guide and the Gamemaster’s Guide, we are featuring a handful of previews over the next weeks. In each installment, we look at a major aspect of the Earthdawn game system and detail how things have changed with the new edition.
In this third preview, we look at talents, skills, and talent knacks (though the latter will appear in the Player’s Companion).

The Sunset for Earthdawn Classic

As announced earlier this year, our Earthdawn Classic is being superseded by the Earthdawn Third Edition game line. This means that the current Earthdawn Classic books will be phased out and will become no longer available for purchase.

We recognize that there are a number of Earthdawn fans who will want to complete their collections, and as that may entail considerable cost, we are phasing our Earthdawn Classic over a three-month period, as follows:
  • Core Rulebooks (Player's and Gamemaster's Compendiums): 31 July 2009, Midnight EST
  • Non-Adventure Supplements (Name-giver's, Nations, etc.): 31 August 2009, Midnight EST
  • Adventure Supplements (Burning, Ardanyan's, Shards, etc.): 30 September 2009, Midnight EST
  • Novels (Anarya's, Dark Shadows): No end-of-life at this stage

After these dates and times, the products shown will no longer be available for purchase from our Lulu storefront (print) or our DriveThruRPG and RPGNow storefronts (ebook).

We are still looking into providing a special price for customers who have purchased Earthdawn Classic eBook products with a comparable Earthdawn Third Edition offering. At this time we cannot guarantee anything, but if our plan works out, this will be in the form of a "time-limited, special price coupon" sent out direct to purchasers of the relevant books at DriveThruRPG and RPGNow. It would be prudent to ensure that your account details are correct on these stores, just in case.

We would like to take the opportunity to again thank our loyal customers over the last five years. This step is a big one for us as a company and, we realize, just as big for fans of our products. Thank you all for your ongoing support.

Earthdawn everywhere, baby!

Earthdawn Third Edition Previews

It's been a while since the last announcement, but you can probably guess that the past three months were pretty intensive for us. A couple of days ago, we sent the Earthdawn Third Edition core rulebooks, the Player’s Guide and the Gamemaster’s Guide off to the printers. We worked very hard on the new edition, and we're very excited and proud on our team: everyone involved went above and beyond of what we had expected. The result is ... stunning to say the least.

To sweeten the wait for the release of the new edition, we will feature a handful of previews over the next weeks. While we start off small, presenting you the new cover artwork (see below), each follow-up installment will look at a major aspect of the Earthdawn game system and detail how things have changed with the new edition. Stay tuned!

RedBrick & Mongoose: Questions and Answers

Since news broke about our partnership with Mongoose Publishing, we’ve had a lot of comments and feedback. This list is nowhere near comprehensive. And, like all good responses, won’t answer all of your concerns or questions. However, we hope it provides you with some additional thoughts and considerations as you continue (or not) to interact with RedBrick Limited.

RedBrick at the RPC 2009 (Apr 3-5)

RedBrick will be attending the Role Play Convention 2009. The RPC is a germany's largest dedicated role-playing convention and takes place from April 3rd to 5th 2009, at Messe Köln in Germany. If you are attending, make sure to visit our booth in the Pen&Paper Area, where you can meet our staff and chat about our books, projects, and games!

Because it is probably the last time we will have our own booth at a convention like this, you'll be able to purchase the products we have available there at special prices--considerably less than you would pay at Lulu right now. It's likely the last chance to grab these from us directly!

See you in April!

Earthdawn Dice Now Available!

The Earthdawn dice sets from Q-Workshop are now available. There will be three sets initially, black with yellow detail, red dice with black detail, and beige dice with black detail. Each die features the Throal symbol as the highest number, indicating that a bonus die has been scored. Forthcoming is a fourth (and limited) set of Astral Dice: black with glow-in-the-dark details. These need to be hand-painted, which is why they take a while longer to produce.

Cooperation with Prometheus Games

In cooperation with our RedBrick Germany branch, Prometheus Games is going to publish and distribute our german titles. This cooperation will replace the existing distribution channel via Lulu.com and make those titles available in german game stores. The first releases will be Western City and Spielleiten. Both titles will be available at the Role Play Convention 2009 in Cologne.

Western City by Jörg Dünne is a gamemasterless roleplaying game in which the players create a western and fill it with life. The development of the story is guided by mechanisms distributing each player's influence evenly. Western City will be part of the Pocket-RPG-Line, which already produced Ratten! and the Ratten!!-Compendium.

Spielleiten by Dominic Wäsch is a universal handbook for gamemasters. The book contains countless tips and guidelines to optimize your game sessions and how to improvise, suitable for both beginners and veterans. Spielleiten shows how even simple methods can be used to gamemaster effectively.

Prometheus Games GbR is located in Duisburg, Germany. They released the first Edition of the Steam-Fantasy Roleplaying Game Elyrion in 2007, and were able to expand their portfolio with several famous products, such as licenses for the Scion™, Savage Worlds™ and Ratten! game lines. The company website is http://www.prometheusgames.de.

RedBrick Germany is the german branch of RedBrick Limited from Auckland, New Zealand. RedBrick publishes the famous Earthdawn®, Fading Suns™, and Blue Planet™ game lines under license from FASA Corporation, Holistic Design, and Biohazard Games. The company website is http://www.redbrick.co.nz.
